The Star Brisbane CEO Daniel Finch said that this announcement was the first of many to come acknowledging the staged opening approach, and emphasised the importance of readiness and exceptional guest experiences. Originally slated for a late 2022 opening, the project’s timeline was extended due to COVID-19 related setbacks, pushing the date first to 2023, then to April 2024, and finally to August 29. The opening phase will unveil a host of exciting attractions and facilities, positioning Queen’s Wharf as a major drawcard for both locals and tourists. New dining and leisure experiences have already been announced for The Star Brisbane, including new live entertainment venue LiveWire. The new precinct on the edge of Brisbane River will experience multi-phase openings, with The Star Brisbane at the heart of the 12-hectare space. Azteca will join other unique dining experiences at Queen’s Wharf, including Black Hide by Gambaro, Cucina Regina, Sokyo Brisbane, and Luke Nguyen’s Fat Noodle, as part of The Star Brisbane’s staged opening starting in August. Its 250-metre Sky Deck, soaring 100 metres above the river, has quickly become one of the city’s most iconic drawcards, offering spectacular dining, bars and panoramic views. "We want to ensure our team members are prepared, our facilities have been tested, our processes are right, and our guests have an exceptional experience they will talk about and come back to experience again," says Finch. Star Brisbane CEO Daniel Finch expressed enthusiasm for the development’s potential to invigorate Brisbane’s CBD and nighttime economy. Future stages will introduce even more luxury accommodations and retail experiences, with opening dates for the Dorsett and Rosewood hotel towers, Velo Café, and high-end retail outlets to be announced in the coming months. "We've been talking for some time about our vision of the city, with high-quality precincts linked together with active travel and public transport links," he said. That also means returning guests will find something new to experience, not just here at The Star but also across both sides of the river." The multi-phase opening of The Star Brisbane means more exciting announcements will come in the back half of 2024. "LiveWire will be one of our first venues to open, supporting and enhancing the growth of Brisbane’s nighttime entertainment economy. "Public spaces will be among the first areas to open and that includes the viewing platform on Sky Deck, Miller Park and Neville Bonner Bridge linking Queen’s Wharf to South Bank. The Star Brisbane is set to unveil its first phase of attractions at the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf precinct, releasing a list of cultural, culinary and entertainment features that will open on 29 August, 2024. "We’ve bolstered our teams in the anti-money laundering area, the counter-terrorism financial area. The Neville Bonner pedestrian bridge connects Queen’s Wharf Brisbane with South Bank’s cultural precinct, providing access to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. The highly anticipated Queen’s Wharf development, a transformative project for Brisbane, is officially set to open its doors on August 29. Star has said previously that "repurposing" these buildings was part of its obligations to the state government under the Queen's Wharf development plan. "The Star has been advised that Charter Hall no longer intends to proceed with the proposed transaction," the company confirmed in an ASX announcement on June 20 last year. The Queensland government only granted Star's new casino licence yesterday, although the company is still under the purview of Mr Weeks. "And also safer gambling and harm minimisation — we have an enormous team now, we have protocols in place and we are well and truly on our way to suitability." They’ll be joined by several other outlets, including a mammoth sports bar, plus the main casino floor and premium gaming rooms. Owned by the troubled Star Entertainment Group, the casino, hotel, dining, event, retail and entertainment complex on the Brisbane River will, in the not-too-distant future, house three distinct hotels – the Star Grand (five stars), the Dorsett Brisbane (4.5 stars) and Australia’s first Rosewood hotel (touted as a six-star). Openings don’t come much bigger than this – the Queensland capital’s several-times delayed, $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is finally ready, with Thursday marking the debut of The Star Brisbane – albeit still stage by stage. Head Chef Zac Sykes will helm the kitchen, offering a custom menu complemented by cocktails featuring Latin American spirits and Asian spices. From late August into September, and throughout the remainder of 2024, new restaurants, bars, public spaces and other destinations will commence trading. But Star Brisbane CEO Daniel Finch said it would be exciting for the community to have a new offering every time they visit. The staged opening of the Queens Wharf hub in the city’s CBD began on Thursday, offering the Star Grand Hotel and casino, Sky Deck public viewing platform, event centre and bikeway. The next phase, starting early next year, will involve further multi-staged openings, including the Dorsett and Rosewood hotel tower and luxury retail. The full 7.5 hectares of public space will open progressively from there, including the upgraded Bicentennial Bikeway and newly created green space, The Landing. The Terrace dining on level four – Cucina Regina (Italian), Azteca by Potentia Solutions Leisure (Latin American), Ghanem Group’s Luc Lac (Asian fusion) and other eateries – will also open during this first phase.
